The Big Day
I have been so excited to share this wedding! As we come up on the one year anniversary I thought no better time than now to share. All my weddings are special to me but this one was special in a different way. The bride Chloe was my second shooter in 2015. She worked with me that entire wedding season and became one of my good friends. When she reached out to me to shoot her own wedding I was so humbled. Truly, what a honor and I of course didn’t hesitate. When she told me her plans of a beach ceremony on a island and a reception back home in Columbus I was even more on board! Yes!!!!
Fast forward to April 2019, where I took a ferry to this beautiful little island off the gulf coast of Florida. I was met by all of Chloe and John’s family, they immediately welcomed me as one of their own. Chloe had always dreamt of having her wedding on this little island where she grew up vacationing every year, this dream became even more important to Chloe after she lost her mom to cancer a few years ago. This place was also special to her mom and a place for her mom to escape to while recovering from chemo treatments, Chloe knew if her mom couldn’t be there in person then her spirit would definitely be with them on Captiva.
I’ve always enjoyed Chloe, her laughter, positivity and warmness. When I met John he immediately had all those same characteristics, just so kind and welcoming. Their large families reminded me so much of my own and I had so much fun capturing this special time for both families.
The ceremony took place in the “front yard” of her parents home. With Chloe’s grandparents being older they were lucky enough to have been set up with a great view from the front porch of their own home next door. Both Chloe and John’s siblings did the readings and afterwards a dinner and reception took place at the local island club. Before the dance party got started I went on a sunset cruise with the newlyweds. This was one of my favorite parts of the day, even when though I got completely drenched by a huge wave (luckily the camera equipment survived)! The night ended with dancing and sparklers, it was one of my favorite weddings to date.
*** The fun doesn’t end here though. May 2019 the couple hosted a reception at Juniper in Columbus. Make sure to check back next week for a recap of that amazing party!
